MYRON BRETHOLZ

Bodhrán player

Since the late 1970's, Myron Bretholz, a native and resident of Baltimore, has immersed himself in every aspect of Irish traditional music. From his beginnings as the host of a popular radio program that aired during his undergraduate years at Georgetown University, he has forged a path that has led him to perform, teach, produce and write about the music that is nearest and dearest to his heart. As a bodhrán (Irish frame drum) player, he has lent his talents to several dozen recordings. And owing to his prodigious knowledge of Irish dance music, he has also been called upon to pen liner notes for albums on a range of labels, including Smithsonian Folkways, Columbia Legacy, Ellipsis Arts, Compass, Green Linnet, and many others. Myron is also a frequent host and master of ceremonies for Irish music concerts and festivals nationwide. In 2000, he was privileged to receive a Maryland State Arts Council grant for solo instrumental performance, and he also was honored to play at the White House on four occasions during the late 1990's and early 2000's. And in 2010, Myron earned his Master of Forensic Studies degree from Stevenson University.
